On January 22, 2009, this year’s Oscar Best Picture nominations were announced: “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “Frost/Nixon”, “Milk”, “The Reader”, and “Slumdog Millionaire”. Minutes later, Oscar watchers and bloggers were in an uproar: No Best Picture nominations for fan-favorites “The Dark Knight” or “Wall-E”!

Minutes later, Oscar watchers and bloggers were in an uproar: No Best Picture nominations for fan-favorites "The Dark Knight" or "Wall-E"!
These were two snubs that people just couldn't get over (especially, "Dark Knight"). Personally, I wasn't surprised or disappointed. I wasn't that big a fan of "Wall-E" and I was annoyed with all of the "Best Movie ... Read More

From May 21-24, hundreds of Harry Potter fans gathered at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel for LeakyCon 2009. What is LeakyCon? I’m glad you asked. It was a Harry Potter conference held in Boston this past week, organized by The-Leaky-Cauldron.org. Yes, there are HP conferences.

Amidst strange looks from passerbys, Potter fans from around the world came together, dressed in costumes, to celebrate their love for the series and have fun at the same time. I was one of those fans.

Live Blog: Season Finale of Lost.
11:00: So they're all gonna wake up where they started? Right? In LA? And then the whole last season of LOST won't answer any questions. It will just be like a really long 'this is what they're up to now' episode. I just really want to know who Locke's doppleganger is....
10:59: Really? That is how LOST is ending? White-on-white credits? I am feeling pretty unsatisfied....
10:56: I think Disco Inferno is still appropriate. Damnit John Locke II. What is happening?!? Who is coming?
10:54: I ... Read More

Just Steph here tonight, taking a break from taking a break from studying for finals.
9:01: Good previews. But, if they erase the past? Won't Jin still be the jerk he was when he first saw him. I like new Jin. Not old Jin.
Slash, we just called Lost ending with Flight-815 landing and nothing with the island ever happening. You heard it here first, folks, the last scene of Lost is everyone getting off the airplane in LA.
9:00: ELOISE JUST SHOT DANIEL!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. ROFLCOPTERS.
8:59: Why on earth, Daniel, would you enter a hostile camp in a Dharma uniform with ... Read More

What’s up fellas? Sorry for the late update this week - you’ve heard the reasons before, the end of the semester and essays and whatever. But I’m back, and I don’t have another essay due for a week, so let’s get cracking.

Frost/Nixon
You know, the goofy stuff kills Ron Howard. He couldn't spin an international bestseller about Christian-conspiracies into a good movie, but he is absolutely money when it comes to biopics. In Frost/Nixon, Howard takes Peter Morgan's play and does what so ... Read More

Anonymous donors gave 9 universities a total of $45 million. Wash. U. was not one of these nine. Why don’t anonymous donors love our fine institution? What did they say when they thought about giving us money?
(remember: one-line quips!)

Ah, sweet Paris. My parents could not bear the thought of not seeing me for six whole months. Because my father, still connected to the Chicago Public Schools, had a spring break that coincided with mine – not hard since my break was a month long – my parents decided to visit me.
Our first stop was Paris. After we finally found each other – I had taken a train and they wanted to meet me at the train station – we headed ... Read More

Interlochen is a tiny little town right in an Alpine Valley completely dedicated to sports. In the winter, you can go night sledding – which is nothing like sledding down a dinky little hill in the Midwest – or you can go skiing. In the spring and summer you can go canyon jumping, bungee jumping, rafting, hiking, parasailing, or paragliding just to name a few things.
I went to Interlochen thinking that I wasn’t going to ski. After all, none of my friends ... Read More

Our happy little band of travelers, which consisted of four people at this point, traveled first to Lucerne. To put it bluntly, Lucerne was the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life. The combination of the Lake Lucerne and the mountains led to a fairytale scene of incomparable beauty. The changing seasons only added to the allure of the town, as I viewed the town in two seasons. From Lake Lucerne up to a certain altitude mark, spring had ... Read More

March 13, I boarded a plane to Spain. This was quickly followed by Switzerland, Paris, Venice, Prague, ferries in Greece, and Brindisi, Italy. March 13, I boarded a plane to Spain. This was quickly followed by Switzerland, Paris, Venice, Prague, ferries in Greece, and Brindisi, Italy. While the travel gods decreed that I over stepped my suburban roots by the time I made it to Greece, most of my trip went, well, almost perfectly. After a month of travelling, I am currently in the recuperation phase and as such, incredibly grateful to be back “home” at Oxford.
And now to continue with where I left off ... Read More
