It seemed like it would never happen but at 3:57 the two bodies approved the General Budget.
The budget called for $1,666.67 to be moved from the Executive Appeals account to KWUR to fund two more artists during KWUR week.
Although dragged out, SU passed the budget.
MR WU. will have to work through appeals.
Session adjourned.
5 minutes left until the meeting is adjourned.
The Treasury voted to approve the General Budget 16-1-1.
Not surprisingly, Senate rejected it 12-4-5.
The division between Senate and Treasury is becoming wider every second.
In the likely scenario, that the budget is not approved today the Executive Branch will make the final decision at a later date.
When Alimi was asked if she had anything new to propose to the budget, she asked for a 5 minute recess.
It is now 3:40. 20 minutes left to make a whole lot of decisions.
A Student Representative from WUTV, Michael Morgan, noted that a student rep. has not spoken in over an hour.
“This is the difference between American democracy and Soviet Russia,” Morgan said.
He was threatened to be kicked out.
“Can we remain respectful, we are all in this together,” Jeff Nelson said.
At this point, only one motion has been passed. This motion to move 2,000 from exec appeals to the 560 building did not solve anything for KWUR or MRWU.
Senate and Treasury have yet to agree on anything.
It doesn’t look like the budget will be finalized at the end of this meeting.
A motion to move 5,000 from the Executive Appeals account to the 560 music building was approved by Treasury but not by Senate. While only one Senator did not approve, the 6 senators not present count as disapprovals.
A compromise was made, and $2000 was passed to be moved into the 560 building.
Present Exec. group members sound angry.
It is now 2:42 p.m.
2:30
Again, in a vote to move along and approve the budget Treasury overwhelmingly approved while the Senate rejected it.
Deja Vu.
Nothing new to report.
A motion to move $5,000 from the Exec. appeals account to MRWU was made. However, Senator Kady Mcfadden noted that this exact same motion was already made in a previous meeting and according to Robert’s Rules the exact same motion cannot be voted on twice.
Consequently, the motion was thrown away.
We are still in discussion.
Amendments to the proposed budget are being suggested but not passed.
Julie Thornton, angrily urged everyone to reach a compromise now. She said at the end of this meeting, someone is going to pissed no matter what. Thornton also said that the $5,000 is only .2 percent of SU’s total budget, SO MAKE A DECISION!
In response, the Exec Committees said that the $5,000 will make a huge difference to them and is a large percentage of their total budgets.
Discussion on Exec Committees must end and will be cut at 2:09.
It looks like its going to be a long day.
The first vote of the day was taken to decide whether or not to approve the Executive Committee Votes.
The Treasury overwhelmingly approved the allocations 16-1.
More split, 11 people in the Senate rejected the proposed budget, and 6 approved.
‘I would like more productive conversation to take place here,” SU President Brittany Perez said.
Alimi reiterated that this meeting will end at 4:00 PM no matter what.
