Live Blog from the Field House: Bears win 85-77 against BVU

The Bears advance to the Elite Eight taking on Millsaps at 7:oo p.m. in the Field House tomorrow. I’m signing out for now as I need to go get some quotes. Thanks for keeping up. Go Bears.

I’m in the Field House bringing you Bears basketball. We just decided to try this out at half time so sorry for the delay. You can also listen to the audio on D3hoops.com or look at live stats at the Wash. U. Athletics site. Wash. U. needs student support so if you’re on campus run to the Field House with your ID. The Bears are playing for a trip to the Elite Eight.

Danny O’ Boyle buries the first foul shot and makes the second. 85-77 with 7.9 seconds left. BVU has it. It’s over as the last shot is made.

The first shot goes in. The second goes swish with 20.5 seconds left. 83-76. 8.8 seconds remain and BVU 33 takes a bonus shot and makes it. He’s up for another. The score is 83-77. He misses and the shot bounces out towards the press table. And that ball almost hit me. Thanks Cameron Smith.

Sophomore Aaron Thompson intercepts the pass and takes two shots as he’s fouled.

I really want to be in the stands right now but I’m working the game. 29 seconds left and it’s BVU ball.

He made the first and the second. 81-76 with 29 seconds left and John Wolf comes into the game. Timeout.
Bears try to break the press and sophomore Aaron Thompson gets fouled underneath the BVU basket. He’ll take a bonus and misses it but Troy Ruths grabs the rebound, saves it from going outside with a pass to Cameron Smith. Smith passes it out to Danny O’Boyle and O’Boyle gets fouled. He’ll take two.

Brian Fogleman is fouled once more and makes his lay up. He’ll take one shot with the score 79-75 and 42.7 seconds left. He makes his shot to put the score at 79-76.

Tyler Nading makes it with 46 seconds left. 79-73.

Ross Kelley comes from behind to steal from Andre wagner. Bears have it with 1:05 left.

Brian Fogleman gets fouled as he goes for the layup. He misses the first and makes the second. 1:51 and the Bears are up 77-73.

BVU up top and Aaron Thompson with the steal. He drives and makes the two point behind the back layup. 77-72 Bears and a time out. 2:09 left.

Bears ball up top. Aaron Thompson with it passes to Nading whose shot just hits the rim.

Kelley has it again to Nading who makes the jumper to put the Bears up 75-72 with 3:15. Ruths makes a big steal with 3:04.

73-72 BVU ball. Ross Kelley gets shoved to the ground as he steals the ball. with 4:03 left. He missed the bonus.

Ruths wins the tip off. Nading makes the two point jumper to push the Bears 73-71 with 4:31 left. Brian Fogleman of BVU takes two shots as he was fouled on the lay up. He makes the first. He missed the second but grabbed the rebound.

Five minutes.

We are going into overtime. Senior Danny O’Boyle tried running down the baseline to inbound with a baseball pass but the Beavers deflected the pass as time winded down.

71-71 and 0.8 seconds on the clock. Wash. U ball. The Bears will need to pull off a miracle to prevent overtime.

The game is tied by Matt Cleveland (BVU number 33) at 71. 0.8 seconds left and the Bears attempted to start while BVU celebrated but were whistled before they could pull anything.

A potentially hostile situation was just averted as Bears fans and Beavers fans clash. AT makes his second.

BVU press fails as Kelley finds Thompson who drives up the right side of the court. Three BVU players chase Thompson and one gives a foul. Thompson steps to the line to take two. He makes his first. The crowd is on it’s feet. Time outcalled by Wash. U. The score is 70-68 with 9.6 seconds left.

Ruths get called for a travel with 22.9 seconds remaining. 69-68. BVU brings it up. Tough call. Charging by Andre Wagners and the Bears have it with 16.8 left. BVU takes a timeout. The crowd went insane. Emotions are high. BVU’s seven cheerleaders lead a cheer but the small contingent of WU students are chanting right back.

WU timeout with 37 seconds left in the 2nd period. 69-68. What’s going to happen? Stay tuned to find out.Wagner leads all scorers with 22 while Aaron Thompson has 19 points this game. Senior Troy Ruths has 18.

The crowd goes crazy. Ruths misses the shot but picks up a rebounds. Ruths causes a foul on Andre Wagner with 53.2 left on the clock. Wagner shooting two. Makes the first. 69-67. Makes the second 69-68. Beavers press. Kelley breaks it.

Thompson saves the ball from going out of bounds but the ref calls a foul on him. BVU 3 takes two shots. Makes the first. 69-66 with 1:49 left.

Ball goes into the stands on the inbound. Bears ball as Nading passes to Thompson.

Nading picks up the rebound with 3 minutes left. 69-64 WU. Nading’s three is in and out. Stuff by Thompson. That was big. Timeout by BVU 69-64 with 2:25 left as the Bears lead. Thompson’s had a big game so far with 19 points including five three pointers.

69-64 as BVU makes the glass shot off an offensive rebound.

Bears have it after a tough traveling call on Kelley.

Ross Kelley finds the hole and makes an easy left hand lay up.

Andre Wagner makes his first free throw. Score is 67-61 with 4:41 left. Wagner takes his second and makes it to bring it to 67-62.

Aaron Thompson with the three from the left with 4:54 in the game. 67-60 Bears. This game isn’t over yet.

At the six minute mark and the Beavers just stole the ball. Big three by the Beavers Eric Holton to bring the score up to 64-60.

Beavers with a steal and they have the ball. Ross Kelley with the steal and the ball gets knocked out of bounds. WU ball.

6:45 64-57 as BVU’s shot bounces off the rim and goes over the board.

7:30 left and the score is 61-56 Wash. U. Ruth shots goes in and out of the rim. Tyler Nading and Cameron smith are back on the court for the Bears. Andre Wagner is taking his shot and makes it as half the gym cheers for him while the other half tries to jinx him. He misses the second and Ross Kelley has it.

Bvu’s Andre Wagner missed the three and it’s Bear’s ball. O’Boyle brings it up. Kelley draws the charge and it’s WU ball at half court.

BVU Timeout as sophomore Cameron Smith buries the three from the right side. It’s a shouting match as fans battle for supremacy. The male BVU cheerleader does cartwheels. 61-56 with 8:48 left. Bears have their biggest lead so far.

Troy Ruths penetrates and the Bear mascot goes crazy. Ross Kelley picked up the steal. 58-56 with 9 remaining.

Big call right there as Nading is called for the foul. 34 can’t connect and Ross Kelley brings the ball up.

BVU 32 gets lucky and the ball bounces in to tie it up. Nading gets the rebound.

Danny O Boyle makes a three to give the Bears their first lead of the game at 56-55 with 10:30 left.

Ruths draws a foul as he goes for the jumper. He’ll take two shots which he makes tying it up.

BVU 33 takes two foul shots. Makes the first and the second. 53-51 with 11:36 left in the second.

Thompson got a crucial steal and the Bears are back in. Aaron Thompsons three rolls around the rim.

BVU #4 makes a jumper from the top of the key. 51-48 BVU with 12:15.Sophomore Aaron Thompson made the three to tie it up at 51-51 with 12:11 left. It’s anyone’s game.

Our crowd has stepped it up just in time as Ruths makes a lay up inside. It’s a one point game 49-48 BVU.

Beaver subs are in. We’ve got Nading, Thompson, DOB, Smith and Ruths on the floor.

BVU 44 fouled junior Tyler Nading. No shots. Bears bringing the ball up.

BVU # 44 drew the foul and is shooting two. The Bears have four fouls this period. Missed the first, made the second.

48-43 as senior Danny O Boyle nailed a three. Troy Ruths grabbed the ball along with two BVU players to force a jump ball. It is hot, it is noisy and it’s insane. This is D3 Hoops at it’s finest.

48-40 with 15:55 in the second.

Buena Vista is on fire from the three point line but the Bears are bring it back to 46-40 with 16:16 left.

The Bears are down 46-38 with 17:30 left against the Buena Vista Beavers.

We’ll update you as we try out our experiment.
